I've spent more than 25 years building digital systems and leading the teams that run them, across agencies, enterprise, education and non-profits. Most of that work is the unglamorous middle: working out what people need, building it properly, and keeping it running after launch.

I built this site with AI tools, the same way I work with clients. I made the decisions about structure, content and design, and used AI to write and test the code faster.
What I Hold To
A few things I stick to on every project, whether it's a CRM integration or an AI pilot.
Governance from the start
I plan the checks before I write the code: where the data comes from, who can see it, how we know an AI answer is right, and what happens when it isn't.
Plain language
If the people using a system can't explain how it works, they won't use it. I write the documentation, run the training, and explain technical trade-offs in terms the business can decide on.
Built for daily use
I build for the people who'll use it every day. That means testing with real data, planning for load, and checking afterwards whether it actually changed anything.
Adoption that lasts
I've written AI maturity frameworks and run cross-functional working groups, so organisations have the structure and skills to keep going once the project ends.
My Process
1. Understand the problem
I start by talking to the people involved: stakeholders, the people who'll use it, and the team who'll maintain it. I've run working groups in education, property and non-profits, and the brief usually changes once you hear from the people doing the work.
2. Build in small steps
I work in short iterations with checkpoints we agree up front. For AI work that means testing answers against the source data, logging what the system did, and keeping a person in the loop where it matters.
3. Launch and stay on
Launch includes monitoring, error handling and documentation. I've trained distributed teams, written runbooks, and stayed accountable for systems after they went live.

Moving off old platforms without losing data or breaking what already works. I've rebuilt donation platforms and migrated complex data structures.
Why I Work This Way
Most AI projects I've seen struggle for ordinary reasons: the brief was unclear, nobody owned the data, or the system wasn't built for the people using it. Those are the problems I spend most of my time on.
